Motion Blur.
If you fly bandos, scrape walls, and push lines until something breaks, expensive glass ND filters are the wrong tool. Less "handle with care." More "send it." Inspired by team pilot @nils.vo.
Bash Filters are built to be sacrificed. They take the hit so your lens doesn't.
Why acrylic?
- Shatter-resistant: Acrylic flexes on impact and tends to crack rather than shatter like glass. No glass shards.
- Motion blur: ND helps you run slower shutter speeds (around the 180° look) in daylight, depending on your camera's manual settings.
- Fits all it's FPV action cam mounts: 36 × 33 × 1.5 mm, same size as TBS ND filters. See compatible mounts.
- Sacrificial by design: Bash it, scratch it, crack it, replace it.
Reality check
These are sacrificial filters made for bashing, not pixel-peeping. Acrylic doesn't match glass optically.
What to expect: ND8 and higher can wash out shadows in backlit situations, flying into sun, bright windows, that kind of thing. It's an acrylic limitation. Glass wins optically, but glass shatters on impact. Pick your trade-off.
Note: Acrylic scratches easier than glass. Treat it like armor, not jewelry.
Which ND should I pick?
- Clear: Pure protection when you don't need ND
- ND2: German overcast / blue hour
- ND4: Overcast / golden hour
- ND8: Common starting point for daylight
- ND16: Bright midday sun
- ND32: Harsh sun, snow, beach, high glare
Configuration
- Run it solo as your ND (simple, light, cheap to replace)
- Run it as armor: Put a Clear Bash Filter on top and a premium screw-on ND underneath for high-end optics protected by shatter-resistant acrylic
